VEDECOM meets with local authorities at the Salon des Maires

This year once again, VEDECOM and VEDECOM Tech have enjoyed an opportunity to meet with local authority representatives at the Salon des Maires exhibition. The yearly national event for public procurement stakeholders was held on 19-21 November 2019 at the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre in Paris. An ideal opportunity for the Institute to present four innovative solutions to assist local authorities in their deployment of new mobility solutions: Marque ta Route (Mark your Road) and VEDETECT, alongside M’OBS and the interoperable supervisor for autonomous vehicles with enhanced perception.

An exhibition stand delving deep into the key issues facing local authorities

Located within the Transport and Vehicles zone, the Institute hosted an impressive stand at the Salon des Maires et des Collectivités Locales. Equipped with two didactic wall panels featuring both graphic artwork and screens, it gave a complete visual overview of the innovative mobility solutions presented by VEDECOM. Origami fortune tellers were hung from the stand, bearing the message: “when choosing mobility solutions for your local area, don’t leave your decision to chance”.

A somewhat unusual approach which was hugely successful! In the run-up to elections, the exhibition was a well-timed opportunity for VEDECOM to gauge the issues facing different local authorities, in all their diversity.

Marque ta Route and VEDETECT: two of VEDECOM’s award-winning innovations at the Grand Prix de l’Innovation

Among the four innovative solutions presented by the Institute, two were recognised by the Grand Prix de l’Innovation of the Salon des Maires on 22 October and were on show to the general public for the first time.

The “Marque ta Route” software, winner of the First Prize for Innovation in the Buildings/Public Works/Highways category, is a road assets management tool based on the PhD research thesis of Maxime Redondin. It provides a set of tools for reliability analysis and assistance with the replacement of road signage, using retroreflection data to automatically analyse road marking inspections.

The VEDETECT sensor network, created by Julian Garbiso, finalist in the NITC/Information Systems category, is a real-time system for measuring and analysing mobility. It uses artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT) to produce mobility measurements (flow, speed and start/end trajectories) that are comparable to results derived from more conventional methods at significantly lower cost. This solution, which will be expanded for use in estimating the density of pedestrians and passengers, will enable local authorities to better regulate traffic, and help them in formulating their transport policy.

Two VEDECOM Tech products: M’OBS and the interoperable supervisor for autonomous vehicles with enhanced perception

VEDECOM Tech also presented two new products. The M’OBS solution by VEDECOM Tech is an evaluation agency for new mobility solutions. It helps local authorities and mobility stakeholders to better understand their environment, to assess the suitability of new mobility solutions and to deliver the best possible user experience.

The commercial division of the VEDECOM Institute also showed a preview of its interoperable supervisor for autonomous vehicles with enhanced perception. Using an interface designed specifically for autonomous vehicles, the Supervisor provides access to a network of sensors installed on roadside infrastructures or in-vehicle systems. It also manages all communications between the different systems. In more concrete terms, it provides local authorities with an affordable and accessible learning and reporting tool to assist with implementing autonomous vehicle trials. It also provides assistance to transport operators and can incorporate new projects being developed by collective autonomous vehicle manufacturers.

VEDECOM presents VEDETECT, a tool for analysing mobility flows in real time, helping to make the era of flexible transport a reality.

Gridlocked junctions, packed train stations, overcrowded buses… What if the secret to freeing up our cities lay in the real-time management of mobility flows and transport supply? This is what VEDETECT is banking on with the new solution from the VEDECOM Institute, which was a finalist of the Grand Prix de l’Innovation at the Salon des Maires et des Collectivités Locales. Tested with support from the Département des Yvelines, a network of smart sensors enables local communities to monitor traffic in real time, both to regulate it better and to help them to develop their transport policies.

Come along to discover the innovative VEDECOM mobility solutions at the Autonomy & The Urban Mobility Summit

Come along to discover the innovative VEDECOM mobility solutions at the Autonomy & The Urban Mobility Summit

Following its first time as exhibitor in 2018, the VEDECOM Institute is returning for the 4th Autonomy & The Urban Mobility Summit that will take place on 16th and 17th October 2019 at Grande Halle de La Villette, Paris. This year, the Institute for Energy Transition will have its stand in the “Shared Mobility” area, focusing on sustainable mobility and putting forward three offers to help industrial and private decision-makers set up the best adapted innovative mobility solutions.

The Autonomy & The Urban Mobility Summit: building bridges between innovative companies and decision-makers

Since 2015, the Autonomy & The Urban Mobility Summit, held annually in October in Paris, has attracted almost 8,000 professional visitors from around the world to meet participants and exhibitors seeking answers to mobility challenges. The event is organised around 6 sector-based themes: active mobility, electrification, autonomous vehicles, shared mobility, data and connectivity, and corporate mobility. The aim is to support the transition towards intelligent and sustainable mobility by building bridges between innovative companies that create mobility solutions adapted to contemporary challenges and those institutional and private decision-makers who have the ability to put these solutions in place. Over 40 conference speakers and 250 exhibitors from around the world, a 14,000 m² exhibition space and two test tracks, a programme of pitches for investors and regions and a platform for business meetings and networking, will be on offer for the visitors.

Mobilitips, Entropy and M’OBS: three offers supporting the implementation of new mobility solutions

At the heart of the “Shared Mobility” space, VEDECOM will present three offers designed to facilitate the implementation of new mobility solutions. With its new digital educational module on new Mobilitips mobilities, the Institute’s Training Programme offers an interactive glossary helping to explain often poorly identified concepts that arise from new mobility solutions. Quizzes and exhibition capsules as well as theme-based talks help to give the best idea of the projects and the environment relating to the emergence of new mobility services, supporting technological transformation and the change of mindset amongst those involved in the industry.

The first start-up emerging from the VEDECOM Institute, Entropy, offers expert knowledge in mobility for individuals, aimed at mobility managers. The proposed solution consists in a decision-assistance tool that helps to show and analyse network usage and user mobility needs. It optimises the positioning and sizing of transport offers to meet the real needs of those travelling.

Finally, VEDECOM Tech, the VEDECOM business subsidiary assessing new mobility solutions, will present the VEDECOM Tech M’OBS solution. M’OBS helps those involved in mobility to improve understanding of their environment, assess the suitability with the regions and deliver the best experience for users.

Entropy, a premier start-up resulting from the VEDECOM Institute’s work on the analysis of mobility manager’s needs through artificial intelligence

What are the movement patterns ? Which modes of transport are used ? Which routes ? Entropy, the new start-up stemming from the VEDECOM Institute’s research work, offers communities as well as individual actors a tool for understanding, measuring, and analysing all mobility requirements within a given territory. By means of an artifical intelligence which models flows, Entropy makes it possible to acquire detailed knnowledge of a territory’s mobility in order to make decisions on and evaluate the necessary facilities or services, bypassing field surveys.

Entropy provides predictive multi-sources software that uses wide-ranging data sources : GPS from cars, demographics, transport networks…A display interface enables the observation of all journeys made within a territory during a standard 24-hour day on an interactive map.

The use of artificial intelligence has many advantages : reactive, the Entropy’s tool provides 100% coverage in France, and is as accurate as face-to-face field surveys, but at lower cost.

The startup has set an ambitious objective : to establish itself by 2022 as the leader in demand estimation for mobility managers in France.
