VEDECOM participated on March 14 and 15, with Trialog, at the invitation of eLaad at an event called Plugfest in the Netherlands (Arnhem) which aimed to validate the specifications of the OCPP 2.0 protocol before releasing them publicly at the end of this month.

The OCPP protocol is one of the most used protocols in the World to supervise the charging stations and charging services. It is generally estimated that OCPP accounts for about 60% of the World market.

OCPP 2.0 introduces a lot of new features compared to previous versions 1.5 and 1.6. This new version of OCPP 2.0 carries important promise as it offers a data model (on which VEDECOM works with Zamiren), a quality of writing and readability of the specifications improved and finally it allows interfacing with the ISO / IEC 15118 protocol. It will thus enable the provision of intelligent charging service that take into account both national and local constraints.

VEDECOM was asked by eLaad to bring its expertise on ISO / IEC 15118 communication and it was a real challenge for VEDECOM and Trialog to develop in less than 2 weeks a OCPP 2.0  version for this event.

These two days of testing allowed us to test our developments against those of other partners who had developed the supervision part like the companies Driivz and Innogy. Thanks to them for their advices and remarks and for their patience. Several use cases described in the specifications have been tested and several points of improvement of the documents accompanying this protocol have been proposed. This has been very beneficial.

For the future, new tests are being discussed with Driivz and Innogy to test more complex use cases combining OCPP 2.0 and ISO / IEC 15118. eLaad would also like to have a reference implementation and VEDECOM on its site. is interested to participate in this reflection.
